Another touching Saturday.

Hum....... How should I start this blog? Hum..........

Ok, lah..... Hum..... still remember about the volunteering at children home? We did it last Saturday........ and......... I am surprise by alot of things which I have seen and experienced with them. I have been volunteering at different places and different events for many years. This is the 1st time I have direct interaction with kids in children home. To protect these kids, I am not going to say much here........ but I will treasure this experience. They allow me to view things at another dimension and allow me to have certain awarness too.

What I want to say here is, hey, everyone down there, those who have your own family memebers around you! Those who have your own HOME! You are the lucky one........ please feel yourself blessed.

I don't know how many of you have volunteering in this kind of event before. But I am happy we organised it with our own effort and own skill and that is YOGA.

In this event, I introduce my yoga therapy friends about Yoga Dance which I have learnt last year. Actually, this yogadance have a healing effect by itself. By playing the music and releasing their energy through the dance movement. From a slow grounding music to the fast pace hot music and then cooling down again with a relaxation music....... and there is no particular dance steps at all. Just free flow of movement as you like.......

Initally, some of my friends feel that this dance can't make it for kids. It is meant for adult...... and this comment make me lost some of my confidence too (but I did it with kids before, and I know they like it very much)........ And ended up, we still put it as one of the event, but I get my YDance friend to lead this whole dance..... And I am glad she is there to help. She is a very experience Kids Yoga Instructor. She had been teaching Kids yoga for 5 years, and with her experience, wow........... Thanks, Laypeng you are there. You are my lucky star!

As a result, we are happy to see some positive sign during the dance. This positive sign make me confirmed that Ydance can make it in term of healing effect. Yes, from ancident till now, music and dance are always have the powerful effect in healing things......... now even farmers playing music during the plantation of grapes........ Hehe..... my conclusion is all living things will not reject MUSIC.

Oh, next time will I lead the dance? I don't know, because I am really too tired with things lately. Just recover from flu...... but cough is still there........ I know my energy level is very low lately....... Must eat more tonics and rest well....... It is a must to reduce my actitivies.

Huh! Reduce your actitivies? Sure! Of course not really lor........ Haha.... After looking at my schedule seems like there are continues actitivies coming up almost every weekend till next year Jan........... pengz! Haha....... after this event, most of our friend agreed to go back to do the volunteering work once a month. And me itchy..... agree to do the coordination work, because the home is just 5-10 mins walk from my home so they choose me lor...... That means more volunteering work coming hor!

Haha..... but I am happy that my teacher - Irene, finally agreed to release me from her Monday teaching. I had been assisting her for 3 years. Initially, she don't agree to let me go because she want to keep in touch with me everyweek...... but now she know I have other things to do..... so she finally agreed to release me. Thanks You! I really need more energy to do other things. :)

Oh, one last things....... I am so touch by the kids in the home. After the yoga session, everyone of us go to the canteen to have our lunch and mingle around with them. Each of them have a lunch box, a pkt of potatoes chips, a mentos and a muffin. And a girl suddenly walk to me and just throw a muffin to me and said:"Hey, this is for you." Oh..... haha...... I am so shock!

This girl dance very well in the Ydance, can tell she love to dance. And you know what! During the dance, when I saw her dancing arh goo goo........ I stand infront of her and follow her dance the arh goo goo too.... but once face one another, she so shy and said ......"eeeeeee".... then she run away.... and I keep laughing...... hahaha....... She is a pretty young lady....... soooo sweeet..... :D I did not get her name...... but I will remember her face.

Ok..... time to end here...... Hey, friends out there...... if you really want to do volunteering work..... come and look for me..... I think there are more to go.

I heard a friend wanna to do Ydance with Old Folks........... is another challenging things and is new to me again! :D

Wish everyone well and happy here!

The Turtles

A turtle family decided to go on a picnic. The turtles, being naturally slow about things, took seven years to prepare for their outing.

Finally the turtle family left home looking for a suitable place. During the second year of their journey they found a place ideal for them at last! For about six months they cleaned the area, unpacked the picnic basket, and completed the arrangements.

Then they discovered they had forgotten the salt. A picnic without salt would be a disaster, they all agreed. After a lengthy discussion, the youngest turtle was chosen to retrieve the salt from home. Although he was the fastest of the slow moving turtles, the little turtle whined, cried, and wobbled in his shell. He agreed to go on one condition: that no one would eat until he returned. The family consented and the little turtle left.
Three years passed and the little turtle had not returned. Five years...six years... then on the seventh year of his absence, the oldest turtle could no longer contain his hunger. He announced that he was going to eat and begun to unwrap a sandwich.. At that point the little turtle suddenly popped out from behind a tree shouting, 'See! I knew you wouldn't wait. Now I am not going to go get the salt.'
Morale of the story:
[ Some of us waste our time waiting for people to live up to our expectations. We are so concerned about what others are doing that we won't do anything ourseleves.]

Dear Friends,

I'm helping out my friends to raise fund for a voluntary expedition trip to Bago, Myammar in December this year. Your kind gesture will go a long long way :)We have been flooded with many distressing news on cities struck by natural disasters recently. All these incidents somehow imply that we, humans, are not omnipotent. We cannot control when disaster will befall but we can always choose to lend a hand to the ones in need. Just like the story about the starfish goes - We can't possibly save all the starfish that had been swept ashore, but by reaching to one and put it back into the ocean, it makes a difference to that one. So, help to bring one more smile to the world.

Details as below:

Project Mingala.

As the name implies, the project seeks to bring "all the good things" to the underprivileged children and youths under the care of The Salvation Army in Myanmar and Singapore as well as the villagers in Bago.

This project which is being supported by National Youth Council, Singapore, covering the team up to 50% of the entire project cost. They hope to raise the remaining amount of S$18,000.

Currently the team is selling cookies from the Yellow Ribbon Project @ $10 per bag (300gm) to raise funds. Or if you are feeling philanthropic, any other amount of donation is welcome. An official receipt will be issued as an acknowledgment.

Funds raised will go to:
(1) Buying refurbishing materials (e.g. paint, equipment) and basic furniture (e.g. book shelves) for the tuition centre and library.

(2) Buying books, dictionaries, educational board games and a keyboard for the children.

(3) Sponsoring a day outing and meals for about 50 underprivileged children / youth beneficiaries.

(4) Sponsoring 2 underprivileged youths from The Salvation Army, Singapore to join them in this expedition.

(5) Team expedition costs e.g. medical, transportation and basic logistics needs* All team expedition project accounts will be audited and approved by the team's local endorsers – The Salvation Army (Administration), and FOCUS TNL Office (Finance).

Team leader - Tuttle Lim (tuttlelim@yahoo.com.sg)
Co-team leader - Kat Lim (kat711@hotmail.com)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can contact me or my friends (emails as above) if you are intending to purchase the cookies or making a donation.
Thank you all.
Spread love :)
Yours sincerely,
Erica
Yoga in the rain.
On 03 Oct 2009, I went for Yoga By The Sea. It is a Autumn Festival too. By right, we should do Yoga under the moon, and look at the moon when we turn our head up to the sky. But instead of full moon, we saw dark cloud and rain drops on to our faces....... haha.......
That day did not rain very heavy in the 1-2 hrs..... so not so bad, we still manage to finish sun saluation. And is quite a different experience to do it outdoor with rain drops dripping on our faces. And in certain postures, we need to turn our head uo and look into the sky, we can see the cloud moving........ very nice...... even the cloud are dark..... haha.....
Of course, get many goodies at the event lor....... No goodies bag, you think Singaporean will go for this kind of event mah! Hehe........ But of course there are some odd one too lah.
The 2 masters on the stage.
Michelle is only mediacorp artise there.
Wellness and Fitness.
Last Saturday, I went for a talk organised by PA again. It is a talk about Wellness and Fitness. It last about 5Hrs (Talk + Health Screening).
This round, they invite a Doctor from Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He speciality Area is in cardiology (Heart). He told us what kind of excerises we should choose. In food there is food pyramid, and in wellness and fitness, there is pyramid as well.
Then he mentioned that a day we should spend 30 mins in excerise. Some people are damn busy, so they will say 30mins??? NO TIME! So nevermind, just split this 30 mins into 10 - 15 mins each time. That means, 15mins x 2 times = 30mins. you can do excerise twice a day in a short time flame.
He also talk about how to manage our physical and mentally stress and go towards a balance lifestyle. There is 10 tips for this....... but I can't remember. Is all in the note, and the note is not with me now.
During Q & A session, somebody asked him about supplement. Should we take supplement? According to this doctor, he said:" In the market, how many supplements have really gone through anaylsis and have a proven reports on the products?" Then he shaked his head and said :"I don't know." He said he don't think there is a need to take supplement, but if we really want to take it. We can try the products for about 3 mths. If we feel after taking it, we feel better, then we can continue. If not, just stop and don't waste anymore money in it. He say the same thing in glucosamine......
Yes, this is not the 1st time I hear this........ supplement without proven reports are plenty in the market.
Beside Doctor, they also invited a 营养学家 to talk about how to eat, what to eat and when to eat in daily. She mentioned we can eat many times a day, but in small amount of food. She suggested us to take 3 meals a day and snacks 3 times a day too (少吃多餐)........ Those who like to snack like me will be very happy. Haha.
In the morning, we must take our breakfast within an hour after wake up. This period is very important to restore our nutrious back to our body and is to balance our blood sugar. She emphaise in balance our blood sugar. If our blood sugar imbalance, it will lead to many illness. We should eat something after every 4 hrs and each time, we should beware what we take in.
Beside talks, they provide us a FOC basic health screening..... those very basic one lah and of course I take lor. My health screening had done 3 years back, and I think is time to check again lah. They also provide us breakfast and lunch...... Very good hor! Hehe..... Their main purpose is to let us mingle around at the same time.......... they really 用心良苦...............
These talks are very brief and believe many people know this knowledge......... but no harm to listen again as an awareness. We are busy with things each day, so tends to forget those small small things. Then I can translate to my students / friends / family too....... Why not. :)
Of course if there is somemore talk, I am happy to attend.............
P/S: I didn't write out much point overhere, because I forgotten many points..... haha........
